We are proud to be the little big town of Northern Savonia: having just over three thousand habitants, Rautalampi might seem small, but our spirit is strong and productive. There is always something happening in Rautalampi – we like to experiment with new ideas! It is no surprise that here the business enterprise density per capita is exceptionally high.

In Rautalampi there is much to see and do. Southern Konnevesi National Park is a must-see for all the nature lovers: the hilly landscape in the midst of clear waters is a home for wild ospreys – under their watchful eye, you can hike in the shade of the centenarian aspens or sail the picturesque lake Konnevesi where the rare trout of Rautalampi waterway also dwells.

If you are more into culture, we have something for you too. The Old Church of Rautalampi is one of the biggest wooden churches in the world: built in 1844, the church sought its inspiration all the way from St. Isaac’s Cathedral of Russia. The magnificent church was built by the Rautalampians themselves.

For the folklore enthusiast, we organize every autumn the traditional hiring markets called Pestuumarkkinat – historically, that was the day of the year when farmworkers were looking for their next employment and gathered together with farmers and landed gentry. Nowadays, the fest is a perfect place for purchasing local handicraft, tasting traditional foods and enjoying the historic countryside atmosphere. Rautalampi has organized the Pestuumarkkinat almost continuosly from the year 1821 and the number of participants may reach even fifteen thousand annually.

For summer and Christmas time we organize market events too.
